We work on an in-person and drop-in tutoring basis; however, special distance tutoring
is available upon request; please contact osl@dos5.net to set it up.
Since we share the space with other library users, we ask you to be respectful of
all participants in public and private sessions.
How to make the most of your tutoring session:
Try to focus on the session; avoid distractions (put away your phone!) to make the
most of your and the tutor's time.
Communicate with the tutors; let them know if the method they are using isn't working
for you.
The OSL does not do test corrections. However, the OSL will help with quiz and test
reviews.
Tutoring in Torres
NOTE: Tutoring in Torres will be back on Tuesday, September 3.
In an effort to make tutoring available to as many students as possible, the OSL and
Residential Life launched the Tutoring in Torres project in the Fall 2022.
Tutoring in Torres is open to all students. If you don't live in Torres, simply knock on the door of the MPR (from the outside),
and it shall be answered!
Online Tutoring
If necessary, NMT students can also get tutoring help online (upon request). As mentioned
above, please contact osl@dos5.net to set it up.
The OSL is using Discord as a space for quick questions and community. To get started,
you need to gain access to the OSL Discord server. You will only have to do this once.
How to get access to the OSL Discord server:
Make aDiscordaccount, if you don't already have one.
Select the invitation link that will be included in the form confirmation email.
Follow the Discord tutorial.
Do NOT share the Discord invitation link!
Student Online Etiquette and Responsibilities:
Make sure you have a steady internet connection and all systems (microphone, camera,
etc.) are working properly before you request online tutoring. If these systems are
not working, let the tutor know, so that they can adjust their method of communication
(e.g., chat).
Try to focus on the session; avoid distractions (put away your phone, close all unnecessary
tabs) to make the most of your and the tutor's time.
Communicate with the tutor; let them know if the method they are using isn't working
for you.
The OSL does not do test corrections. However, the OSL will help with quiz and test
reviews.
